Interim Head of School Update – Monday 8th June 2020

Today marked the first day of our partial re-opening to pupils in our Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6! Despite the glorious recent weather, what felt like the ‘first day back at school’ was greeted with the typical rain. Despite this, I was delighted to welcome some of our pupils back to school and to talk with their families at the start and end of the school day. I was incredibly proud of all the pupils, who came in smartly and, most importantly, excitedly, ready to reunite with their friends and teachers – some familiar faces – all from a distance of course! It was lovely to see so many smiles! Our Facebook page shows some of the activities that took place in school and the nursery today, including fun on the field, exploring and investigating the soil, talking about staying safe at school, having lunch and our own ‘balloon-modelling distancing hats’ (hopefully the images will help to explain).

This is a great opportunity to offer my ‘thanks’. Firstly, to you – during these uncertain times, the support you have provided the school has been incredibly welcome. It has been challenging for so many of us, for a number of reasons, but there has been a real sense of community spirit. Thank you! Secondly, the staff team have worked tirelessly and unconditionally across the weeks that we have been closed and put in an incredible effort last week, moving furniture and redesigning classrooms in preparation that we could be ready to open today, and I’d like to thank them all for their commitment. Finally, a school is really just a building without children, so to be able to reopen, even if to just a few year groups, meant a lot to the staff. The pupils were incredibly calm and sensible. Wider than that, I know that our pupils have been working on their learning packs at home and supporting their families and class teachers have loved keeping in touch – every child has certainly contributed. Thank you to you all!

I look forward to welcoming back all of our pupils back to school, whenever this may be! Should you wish to contact us, please use the school office email address (OPAOffice@AuroraAcademies.org) and someone will get back to you as soon as they are able to.

Continue to stay safe and look after each other!
